Self Care: Herbal Baths

One of my favourite ways to relax and de-stress is to take a long herbal bath. A herbal bath is simply a regular bath that you've added steeped herbs to. Literally one of the easiest things to do, and one of the most relaxing and nourishing to the mind, body and soul. The way that I like to make mine is to bring about 8 cups of water to a near-boil, take it off the heat and add my herbs (as much or as little as you want. Experiment and see what you prefer). Cover the pot with a lid and let the herbs steep for at least 20-30 minutes. Once you've run your bath, strain and add the steeped herbs. This is also wonderful for babies and children.

Some of my favourite plants to add:

  • Calendula flowers: this plant is gorgeous to look at and it is a powerful skin soother and healer

  • Rose petals: roses open the heart and add a beautiful scent

  • Lavender: calming to the mind, rejuvenates the skin

  • Comfrey: soothing to the skin

  • Nettles: all around nutritive loaded with vitamins and minerals, helps circulation-- you can soak these up through your skin

  • Chamomile: soothing, calming, relieves pain

To really increase relaxation benefits, you can add some epsom salts as well!

Enjoy!
